Location:

The Jazz House is located at 3192 Adeline Street in Berkeley, a half block southwest of the Ashby BART.  (Please note there is an incorrect Adeline Street in Oakland.)

The Jazz House is a small, non-descript warehouse located next to the police station where Martin Luther King and Adeline Stree meet.   A blue light and a peculiar "Ant" sign reside above the entrance.

Teachers:
Wade Peterson

Wade is a phenomenal musician.  He has extensive experience playing and teaching both djembe and dunun, having studied with Mamady Keita, one of the world’s preeminent djembe players (from Guinea).  He has played and studied locally with Abdullai Djiakate (from Senegal), and is currently collaborating with Karamba Diabate (from Guinea) at Rhythm and Motion in San Francisco.

Wade is also quite experienced in both Congolese and AfroCuban drumming styles.  He is an experienced player and teacher, and has also studied djembe intensively in Africa.

Having broad general musical knowledge, he also has an encyclopedic knowledge of West African rhythms, cultural history, etc.

We welcome djembe and dunun players with varying levels of experience.

To accommodate beginners as well as more advanced musicians, the class will be divided as follows:

10:00am-11:30pm:
Ideal for beginners with a focus on basic technique and simple rhythms.

11:30am-1:00pm:
Ideal for the more advanced drummers, targeting players with previous experience.

Students may choose to attend either or both sessions.

Prices:
Beginner Session: $15
Advanced Session: $15
Both Sessions: $25
